Only a few kilometers from the town of Krk lies the small town of Punat along the spacious and protected bay of the same name. Legend has it that the name Punat comes from the Latin Pons - bridge, or Ponte in Italian, allegedly because in Roman times there was a bridge over the narrow entrance to Puntarska draga towards the town of Krk. There are traces of population from prehistory, through the Illyrians, to the Greeks and Romans. Allegedly, according to various records, the inhabitants of the area of ​​Punat were settled by the princes of Krk, in order to protect the access to the bridge and Puntarska draga.

In addition to farming and animal husbandry, the inhabitants of Punat were engaged in fishing and shipbuilding until the development of tourism and shipbuilding began in the 19th century.

In the middle of the Puntar Bay is the islet of Košljun. There is a Franciscan monastery where monks have been collecting and preserving various objects for centuries, but they were also one of the guardians of Croatian culture and literacy. But monks are also known for collecting medicinal herbs and producing herbal preparations. There is also a museum with an ethnographic collection on the island, while the monastery also has a zoological collection consisting of a collection of shells and unique specimens of animals, such as a lamb with one eye. The monastery also has a rich library with about 30,000 books.

Punat has one of the largest marinas on the Adriatic. For sailing lovers, a great nautical center of Kvarner. The technical services it provides together with the shipyard are great, the blue flag has been flying over the marina for years, business premises for shops, charters, and other service activities are spacious and maintained, and on land, at sea there is room for about 1,200 boat! For those guests staying in private households or hotels in the center, the possibility of mooring and lowering and raising services for smaller boats is organized in the port in the center.

Punat has its own city beach within the Punat bay, suitable for children and the elderly, with access to the sea and shallow water and protective barriers for swimmers. Already at the exit from the bay and at the end of the place we come across pebble beaches that are the hallmark of our island.

The beaches are numerous and bathers will always find their place on them, and they will be able to fill their free time with various sports facilities offered on the beach. The inhabitants have been raising sheep for centuries and are masters at making sheep cheese with which each meal begins or ends.
