Vrbnik is a small town located on the east side of the island of Krk, 28 km from the Krk bridge. At the very entrance to Vrbnik, you will be greeted by endless vineyards where the famous Vrbnik žlahtina, one of the best wines in Croatia, and karst pastures suitable for sheep breeding are grown.
If you approach it from the sea, you will see a 49 m high cliff, houses crammed around the bell tower, surrounded by medieval walls. He was celebrated by the song "Vrbniče nad morem" and the golden Vrbnik žlahtina, a favorite inspiration of artists, and many famous people grew up in Vrbnik.
According to the older locals, before the wine gained fame, cereals were grown in the field to feed families that had more members than today. In such conditions, vines were grown along the edges of the fields because there was no market and wine was produced only for their own needs.
Vrbnik has a rich 900-year-old history, it was an important Frankopan castle, Glagolitic and religious center under the protection of St. John the Baptist. Be sure to walk the streets and find the narrowest street in the world, visit the Vrbnik Cathedral and an interesting exhibition on the bell tower, explore the Vitezić Library and see the Glagolitic inscriptions that are found everywhere in the old town.
