Black Sheep in Baška: More than a festival, it's a brand that celebrates karst and lamb

If you're looking for a moment when Baška really breathes life into its lungs, it's the Black Sheep weekend. For us on the island, it's the unofficial start of the real pre-season. It's not just another in a series of folk festivals with cheap music; Black Sheep is a seriously branded combination of local heritage, serious sports and urban culture.

Here's what has kept this festival at the top for years:
1. The cult of lamb
Here, lamb is not a casual food; it's the reason to come. Baška sheep graze on bare karst full of medicinal herbs and salt, and you can feel it in the meat. On the waterfront, you won't just find classic skewers - there are top-notch kettles, but also modern "sheep" burgers that have become a hit. And of course, homemade šurlice and cheese. That's the taste of Baška in its purest form.
2. Urban culture without junk
What sets Black Sheep apart is the music program. There are no "light notes" of show business here. The focus is on rock, jazz, and urban sound. In addition to the concerts on the waterfront, which are always free and crowded, the festival also has an intellectual note. Lectures by Korad Korlević or photo exhibitions of the Krk landscape give the whole story a deeper dimension that tourists really appreciate.
3. Sports in the "moon landscape."
Baška is a natural training ground for active holidays, and Crna ovca makes the most of it. From the sailing regatta in the Optimist class, which fills the bay with white sails, to cycling and hiking. A special recommendation is the tours to the mrgar - those fascinating stone flowers in the dry stone wall. These are monuments to hard work that look unreal from the air.
4. The symbolism of the black sheep
The whole place lived under the same visual identity in those days. The black sheep is not just a logo; it is a symbol of resistance to mediocrity and the celebration of individuality. From the decoration of the streets to the T-shirts worn by the waiters, in those days Baška looked worldly.

What awaits us in 2026? Given that the jubilee, 20th edition is upon us, expect the bar to be raised even higher. It will be the strongest program so far, with names that will surely fill the waterfront and new gastronomic creations that we have not yet tried. First-hand advice: It is very crowded during the festival. Our recommendation – in the morning, "get lost" towards the mrgari on Ljubimer. There you will feel the silence of the karst, and then in the afternoon, go down to the waterfront for lamb and concerts when the atmosphere heats up. That is the best way to experience the Black Sheep.
